C. Matthew Hawkins: I was born and raised in the city of Pittsburgh. I grew up in a working-class African American neighborhood with a broadly interfaith and ecumenical background. Following seven years of nighttime Eucharistic adoration, serving on the pastoral council of my parish, and working on a narrative inquiry project for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, I entered the seminary in 2014 to discern my calling to the priesthood. I am completing my final year at St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore.
